When she looks up to the sky, to the white pale moon, she decides to take full responsibility for her actions and all the trouble she has caused Nine and Twelve. Surely during the time Lisa was waiting for Twelve in the ferris wheel, she had some time to think about her current position and what she has been hoping to get out of her life. It is immediately following this Lisa has her “inner transformation” and grows exponentially as a character. In MY FAIR LADY, Five paints her fingernails black, as if to indirectly tell her “yes, you are one of them on the outside, but are you in the inside?”. If black/crows are to represent Twelve/Nine, this could symbolize her inner transformation from an innocent white “dove” civilian to a black terrorist “crow”. When lithium is cut open, it at first has a metallic luster, which eventually turns to a dull silver, then to grey, then finally to black. This could also connect to, according to gigiviv, how lithium is “hard to store”.
Therefore it is only fitting Lisa’s element is considered the lightest solid element, for it is the “personification” of her core desire. She runs away from home, admitting to Twelve she was hoping for someone to take her away…for someone to give her the freedom from her burdens. She itches for that kind of freedom she sees only Twelve and Nine can provide to her. When Twelve jumps, the shot moves to a slow motion of Twelve in the air and Lisa’s surprised reaction.
Now what could have prompted that? Perhaps at school Lisa would constantly look outside the windows to the birds we will never truly know the reason.
This yearning to be free has been exhibited multiple times throughout the series, starting with one of the bullies telling Lisa “Fly high, Lisa!”. Furthermore, when she realized this, her first reaction was to look to the sky. In HIGH & LOW, Lisa was able to let go of her burdens, to stop thinking about her poor situation, and essentially “be free”, even if that meant she was going to die. Thinking about this in terms of freedom as well, this could potentially also connect to HIGH & LOW. The crows are portrayed in almost a yearning fashion, alluding to her desire to be free and to fly. However this sinking isn’t voluntary-this could represent something/someone is holding her back, which we can potentially tie in with her bullying at school and her mother at home-life in general has not been very good for Lisa so to speak. This is rather ironic for the ending, however, because in the ocean she is shown to sink. In considering the past episodes, this can be tied to connect to Twelve’s synesthesia in the form of feathers, for feathers are soft, white, and light. In terms of physical appearance, Lisa is an incredibly pale individual (at least in comparison to the rest of the characters). Lithium is described to be a soft, silver-white metal, known to be the lightest metal and the least dense element (in a solid form). Looking at the periodic table, the third element if Lithium, which to no surprise can go well with her character. This could be alluding to Lisa’s “Sphinx” number as the third Sphinx, or that if she were a member of the institution (as Twelve said he has the same “aura” as Twelve/Nine) her “number name” would be Three.
Chemical analysis for Nine, Twelve, and FiveĪs many followers have pointed out, indeed there may be chemical significance to Lisa’s name, as Lisa’s characters include the characters for the number three.
